Corey Gemmell,
violinist, is a native of
Hamilton, Ontario. He has distinguished himself as soloist and
chamber musician in Canada, Germany, the United
States and China. Numerous performances with orchestra have included concerti by Brahms and Beethoven, as well as Affairs of the Heart by Canadian composer Marjan Mozetich. During the 2007-2008 season, Mr. Gemmell
performed the
Beethoven Triple Concerto with the Symphony Hamilton Orchestra and
Vaughn Williams’ The Lark Ascending with the York Symphony
Orchestra. The 2009-2010 season will feature him playing the Mendelssohn Violin Concerto in E minor with the York
Symphony, the Beethoven Triple Concerto, and Mozart's Sinfonia
Concertante with the Scarborough Symphony Orchestra. An active chamber musician,
Mr. Gemmell appears in many festivals and recitals each season.
At present, Mr. Gemmell is concertmaster of Symphony Hamilton, concertmaster for The Sound of Music at the
Princess of Wales Theatre, and associate
concertmaster of both the Toronto Philharmonia and the Esprit Orchestra. He is a member of the Mississauga
Sinfonietta and the Elgin String
Quartet, and frequently performs with the Toronto Symphony Orchestra and the
Canadian Opera Company Orchestra.
Mr. Gemmell can be heard on compact disc in recordings of sonatas by
Brahms, Ravel, Robert A. Baker, David Eagle and Hope Lee.
As an adjudicator, Mr. Gemmell makes appearances at music
festivals across Canada. He is on faculty at the University of
Western Ontario, the Royal Conservatory of Music, the National Music
Camp of Canada, and is a member of the Royal College of Examiners.
